Remanufacturing Association Alliance Announces the Addition of the Association of Medical Device Reprocessors

July 28, 2020

West Henrietta, New York – July 28, 2020 – The Remanufacturing Industries Council is pleased to announce the addition of the Association of Medical Device Reprocessors (AMDR) to the Remanufacturing Association Alliance (RAA), bringing the total number of participating associations to eight.

The Remanufacturing Association Alliance is a collaboration of remanufacturing associations that foster the dissemination of remanufacturing news, best practices, and information relevant to the entire industry. This unprecedented, synergetic alliance was created in February 2017 and provides a framework for cooperation and support of strategic initiatives for advancing industry objectives in all sectors.

“The AMDR is joining the RAA at an exciting time as remanufacturing continues to provide a leading role in advancing many important industries to a circular economy. We are confident they will provide a valuable perspective on the medical industry and look forward to their participation in RAA driven initiatives,” said Vaughn Henson, Chairman, Remanufacturing Industries Council, and Director of Business Development, SRC Holdings Corp.

Founded 20 years ago, AMDR is the global trade association consisting of members of the regulated, professional single-use medical device reprocessing and remanufacturing industry. AMDR represents the reprocessing industry, promotes reprocessing as an important healthcare strategy that helps hospitals and healthcare providers increase quality, reduce costs and build a more resilient supply chain, and protects the interests of its members in regulation, legislation, and standard-setting. Follow AMDR on Twitter and connect on LinkedIn to learn more about their work.

AMDR members include Innovative HealthMedline RenewalNEScientificReNu MedicalStryker Sustainable SolutionSustainable Technologies (a Cardinal Health Business), and Vanguard AG.

Having played a key role in the establishment of the remanufacturing industry, AMDR continues to push the medical technology industry and lead the way for remanufacturing to play a defining role in the evolution and utilization of new device technologies.

“Hospitals produce an astonishing 11.7 thousand tons of waste each day, that must be landfilled or incinerated,” said Dan Vukelich, President/CEO, AMDR.  “But we can safely reprocess over 300 different single use medical devices and do our part to reduce waste and lower costs.  Medical device and supply shortages during the COVID pandemic have only heightened awareness to the moral obligation we have to use first what we have, before tapping into a global supply chain and to reduce unnecessary waste so that precious financial resources go further.  Our industry welcomes the support of the RAA to link arms with other industries that see the incredible benefits of remanufacturing.”

The RAA provides a voice in the marketplace on important reman topics like tariffs and regulations, as well as help to broaden the awareness about remanufacturing to the general public. Recent initiatives include annual global Reman Day and a proposal to the Census Bureau to update the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to include remanufacturing.

The RAA collaboration includes the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA)Association of Medical Device Reprocessors (AMDR)Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA)Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA)International Imaging Technology Council (I-ITC)Production Engine Remanufacturers Association (PERA)Professional Electrical Apparatus Reconditioning League (PEARL), and the Remanufacturing Industries Council (RIC).
